Cryptozoology literally means the study of hidden animals. These animals are usually considered by main stream biologists as not in existence, or no longer in existance.
‘Architeuthis’, the Giant Squid was one of the animals that, until very recently, were believed to only exist in the minds of drunk sailors. Now it has moved out of the field of Cryptozoology and into main stream biology, it is of course possible that eventually more of these mythical creatures will be discovered.
The most commonly known creatures in this field would probably be Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster. Even after decades of investigation there is still no solid evidence for their existence.
But who knows, maybe in the deepest, darkest forests of our planet there lies in wait creatures that have only appeared in local folklore, still undiscovered by the “civilised” world. Although this is an exciting possibility, it is far more likely that there are undiscovered creatures lurking in the depths of our oceans. Our planet is around 70% water of which most of it we have yet to explore due to the high pressures associated with the depth. Maybe one day we will travel down the lowest depths of our oceans and discover something we wish we hadn’t, or which we can marvel over for years to come.
